History of D S Garad College

The college has been named as Deshbhakt Sambhajirao Garad Mahavidyalaya after the great visionary Congress leader of Mohol. He had been in the company of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Yeshwantrao Chavan. He was the courageous, fearless and bold leader who sacrificed his life for the betterment of the downtrodden people and upliftment of the poor women. In continuation with his vision, his successor Shri. Shahajirao Patil the State Minister in the Government of Maharashtra for Rural Development contributed to the establishment of the college. It will not be an exaggeration if it is said that the college was actually the realization of his dream. His successor Shri. Dr. Vasantrao Garad M.B.B.S. has been, at present, contributing in the development of the college. He has been rendering valuable services in the field of education to the residents of Mohol as well as the surrounding area.

Mission

  • To run the educational institutes like Primary School, High School, College, Technical School, the Library, the Hostel for B.C. and the classes for the adult.
  • To work for the upliftment of the economically weaker, backward and orphan women by providing educational facilities to them.
  • To provide valuable, up-to-date information about the farming and marketing to the farmers through the Market Information Centre.

As per the goals, Kai Sambhajirao Garad Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Mohol, Dist. Solapur runs and manages Deshbhakt Sambhajirao Garad Mahavidyalaya, Mohol, the only senior college. It was established in 1990. It also runs and manages Deshbhakt Sambhajirao Garad Jr. College, Mohol, Dist. Solapur. Deshbhakt Sambhajirao Garad Mahavidyalaya essentially belongs to the younger generation of the Indian Colleges as it has been established after Independence. It has been situated in Mohol, one of the leading Talukas of Solapur District in Maharashtra. Mohol has really historical and religious significance. It is 32 k.m. away from the District place of Solapur, 40 k.m. away from the Pandharpur which is known as Dakshin Kashi. People do visit Mohol to pay their tributes to the God Nagnath the main attraction of Mohol. In fact, Mohol is situated on the Pune-Hyderabad Highway No.9 Mohol is 210 k.m. away from Pune and 400 k.m. away from Aurangabad, 110 k.m. Bijapur, 510 k.m. away from Banglore. In fact, the College is situated on Mohol-Bijapur-Bangalore highway No. 139.

Goals and Objectives

  • To impart qualitative and valuable higher education up to B.A. to the students of MOHOL and nearby villages in general.
  • To educate the economically backward classes and individuals like the Scheduled Caste (S.C.) and Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) by equalizing educational opportunities.
  • The focus of the college is on all rounded development of student’s personality through Co-Curricular activities.
  • To provide a platform to the students by giving them opportunities to express their hidden qualities.
  • To ensure and maintain discipline in terms of regularity, sincerity, and punctuality among the students so that they contribute to the society and nation as most responsible and respectable citizens.
